Titan Launches New Atlas-HS with Hybrid Additive and Subtractive Capabilities on a Single Platform

With 3D printing and machining capabilities, Titan’s Atlas-HS continues to enable additive manufacturing in industrial production

Colorado Springs, CO – Titan Robotics, Ltd., a leader in production additive manufacturing solutions and equipment, has released its new Atlas-HS system that incorporates its proven pellet extrusion system with a 3-axis milling system on the same gantry. The new cutting-edge Atlas-HS incorporates Hybrid Additive and Subtractive technology enabling 3D printed parts to be machined both during and after the printing process. Taking production additive manufacturing to the next level, the Atlas-HS shortens cycle times and produces smooth and accurate end-use 3D printed parts.

Expanding on Titan’s highly successful line of Atlas 3D printers, the Atlas-HS features a heated chamber for printing high-performance polymers, including CF-PEI, GF-PEKK, Nylons and more, and is available with print volumes of 42”X x 42”Y x 44”Z up to 50” X x 50”Y x 72”Z, with custom size options also available. The Atlas-HS gives industrial customers ultimate flexibility, with a spindle and the option to incorporate both Titan’s pellet and filament extruders on the same gantry.

Atlas-HS Industrial Applications

As a production additive manufacturing solutions provider, Titan’s Atlas-HS is designed and built to address the needs of customers in industries including aerospace, automotive, foundry, consumer products and appliances, government agencies and more. The Hybrid Additive and Subtractive system on the Atlas-HS enables users to quickly and cost-effectively manufacture end use parts, patterns, molds, tools, jigs and fixtures.

“The Atlas-HS provides new and innovative solutions for production additive manufacturing by enabling industrial users to 3D print a near-net shape part with pellet extrusion and then post machine it to meet final part requirements, as well as produce complex geometries with in-situ machining capabilities,” said Bill Macy, Titan Robotics’ Partner and CTO.

In line with Titan’s mission to enable the adoption of additive manufacturing into industrial production, the Atlas-HS provides new solutions to shorten cycle times and lower the cost of part production. Parts can be printed quickly using Titan’s high-deposition pellet extrusion system and printing near-net shapes. Then, additional time savings are achieved by the ability to machine in-situ or after printing without having to remove or re-calibrate the part on another machine. Cost savings are achieved by reducing capital expenditures with a single machine incorporating two processes and by utilizing pellet feedstocks, which can cost up to 10X less than traditional filament feedstocks.

Atlas-HS Specifications

“We have designed the Atlas-HS in keeping with our core values of offering production-ready systems and customizable features. As with all our Atlas models, the Atlas-HS will be available with industrial and advanced features that customers can select to meet their needs and their end-use application, such as a tool changer with multiple tools available,” said Clay Guillory, Titan Robotics Founder and CSO.

The Atlas-HS utilizes Titan’s proven, industrial 3-axis design with a welded steel frame. Industrial features unique to the Atlas-HS include a chip collection system, an available tool changer with a capacity of up to six tools, spindle sizes up to ¼” in diameter and up to 4” in tool length and tool calibration sensors available.

Like all of Titan’s Atlas models and systems, the Atlas-HS utilizes an industrial CNC motion control system with servos on all axes and the ability to incorporate customized features including I/O sensors, air filtration, material dryers and more.

Titan Robotics is debuting the Atlas-HS at the Additive Manufacturing Users Group conference with live demonstrations of both additive and subtractive processes during the AMUG Expo.  AMUG attendees will also have a chance to learn more about Titan’s Hybrid Additive and Subtractive technology during a conference presentation given by Titan’s experts on Monday, May 3, at 3:30pm ET.

Supporting Programs

The development of the Atlas-HS was supported in part by a Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) Advanced Industries Grant, awarded to Titan Robotics in 2020. Titan Robotics received a $250,000 grant from the state of Colorado, enabling Titan Robotics to accelerate and commercialize this breakthrough technology in industrial additive manufacturing. The OEDIT Advanced Industries Grant Program funds companies commercializing innovative technologies to create viable products that meet a market need and can be created and manufacturing in Colorado.
