Titan Robotics and Infinite™ Material Solutions Collaborate on Novel Water Soluble 3D Printing Materials

Titan and Infinite™ host Webinar Dec. 3 on Use of Infinite™ AquaSys® Water Soluble Support Materials on Titan’s Industrial Pellet and Hybrid Extrusion based Atlas Platform

December 1, 2020  – Titan Robotics, Ltd. and Infinite™ Material Solutions announce a strategic partnership to provide novel water soluble materials for industrial additive manufacturing applications. The collaboration between the two companies leverages Titan’s production additive manufacturing platforms with pellet and multi-head extrusion systems with Infinite™ Material Solutions’ AquaSys® materials portfolio. These materials can be used as both water soluble support materials compatible with a variety of structural polymers and in soluble core applications.

Titan’s state-of-the-art Atlas 3D printers with Hybrid Pellet + Filament Extrusion and Dual Pellet Extrusion systems enable the use of dual materials to be printed using low-cost pellet feedstocks. With the Atlas’ heated enclosure reaching 80°C (176°F), industrial customers can print complex geometries using high-temperature pellet materials such as carbon fiber filled PEI or glass fiber filled PEKK with AquaSys® 180 high-temperature water soluble support material in either pellet or filament form. Customers can also print engineering materials like Nylons, ABS, PC and more with AquaSys® 120 general purpose water soluble support material in either pellet or filament form

About Pellet Extrusion on the Atlas

Pellet extrusion on the Atlas enables production additive manufacturing solutions by printing directly with plastic pellets instead of traditional filament. Pellet extrusion increases throughput and decreases material costs, while also expanding the variety of materials that can be 3D printed.

Pellet Extrusion on the Atlas enables order of magnitude material cost savings compared to traditional 3D printing filaments and the ability to print with hundreds of grades of resins. From flexible, low durometer materials up to high-performance and highly filled engineering materials, pellet extrusion on the Atlas utilizes open market materials.

Titan Robotics Awarded CO Advanced Industries Grant

Colorado Springs, CO – November 20, 2020 – Titan Robotics, Ltd., a leading manufacturer of industrial 3D printers based in Colorado Springs, was awarded a $250,000 grant from the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT)’s Advanced Industries Accelerator Grant Program. Out of 37 recipients across the state, Titan Robotics is one of two Colorado Springs companies to receive the grant.

“The Advanced Industries grants expand Colorado’s vital innovation ecosystem that supports our economic growth,” said Katie Woslager Senior Manager – Advanced Industries in a press release issued by OEDIT. “These innovative companies create jobs and leverage additional investment in Colorado, and are even more important as the nation focuses on economic recovery.” 

The Advanced Industries Accelerator Grant Program fund companies commercializing innovative technologies to create viable products that meet a market need and can be created or manufactured in Colorado and exported globally. According to OEDIT, the AI Accelerator Grant program received 100 applicants this grant cycle.

“This grant will allow us to accelerate and commercialize breakthrough technology in industrial additive manufacturing, furthering Titan’s mission of enabling the adoption of 3D printing into industrial production,” said Rahul Kasat, Titan Robotics Partner. “In addition to funding innovative technologies, this grant will help us drive economic growth and support new jobs in Colorado Springs.”

According to OEDIT, the Advanced Industry Accelerator Programs (AIA) were created in 2013 to promote growth and sustainability in Colorado’s advanced industries by driving innovation, accelerating commercialization, encouraging public-private partnerships, increasing access to early stage capital and creating a strong infrastructure that increases the state’s capacity to be globally competitive.

Titan and Braskem Partner to Commercialize Polypropylene Pellets for Industrial 3D Printing

Titan and Braskem launch new strategic partnership to provide industrial additive manufacturing solutions

Colorado Springs, CO – Titan Robotics, Ltd. and Braskem are providing new additive manufacturing solutions after entering into a strategic partnership and announcing the launch of a new 3D printable polypropylene (PP) resin optimized for printing large-format, production parts. This is the first commercially available grade of unfilled polypropylene engineered for 3D printing on Titan’s industrial Atlas 3D printers with pellet extrusion capability.

Utilizing Titan’s innovative pellet extrusion system on its Atlas 3D printers, Titan and Braskem worked together for more than a year on the research and development of this new polypropylene grade for additive manufacturing. Through a strategic partnership Titan and Braskem plan to continue to offer innovative new grades and custom compounds of Braskem’s polypropylene resin to meet the needs of Titan’s industrial customers.

Polypropylene is ideal for additive manufacturing based on its recyclability, impact strength, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability. Additionally, polypropylene has durable live hinge capabilities and a lower density compared to other plastics.

“3D printing large parts using polypropylene resin has been a challenge for many years. In collaboration with Braskem, a global leader in the polypropylene market, we have now solved that challenge. Our industrial customers will be able to print functional parts with this first of its kind polypropylene grade. We are also excited to continue to develop new polypropylene based solutions for our customers in collaboration with Braskem,” said Rahul Kasat, Titan Robotics’ Chief Commercial Officer.

As one of the most widely used polymers across dozens of industries, polypropylene has been highly sought after in 3D printing. Due to its crystallinity, the existing grades of polypropylene have been not suitable for 3D printing. Because Braskem’s new polypropylene pellets, and filament, are engineered for 3D printing, the materials have little to no warpage and strong interlayer adhesion, overcoming traditional challenges of 3D printing polypropylene.

Launch of this product enables industrial use cases across a broad range of industries including automotive parts, components for the chemical and gas industry, packaging applications, storage and creating live hinges.

Titan’s Global Customer Network 3D Printing PPE

Titan Robotics would like to take a minute to thank and highlight Titan’s global network of customers and partners who are helping healthcare workers in their communities by 3D printing personal protective equipment (PPE). As designs were validated for 3D printable face shields, nearly a dozen of Titan’s customers across the US and Mexico jumped into action, responding to the shortage of PPE due to the coronavirus pandemic.

One amazing example of innovation and community support can be found in Morelia, MX, where Titan customer PSSI shifted their operations from printing foundry patterns to face shields. To date, PSSI has printed approximately 1,400 face shields to provide their community and local hospitals. Using pellet extrusion on their Atlas 3D printer, the team at PSSI reduced print times down to just 3 minutes per face shield head band, enabling them to quickly and affordably get these much needed parts into the hands of those who need them most.

And just outside of Dallas, TX, Titan customer Triumph Group optimized their large format Atlas 3D printer with filament extrusion to print more than 2,500 face shields for the Dallas VA Hospital and JPS Health Network in Fort Worth, TX. The team at Triumph maximized the large print bed and large nozzle diameters to reduce print time by 90% to more quickly produce the face shields.

“I optimized the face shield head bands designs to leverage Titan’s large extrusion width so a continuous vase tool path could be used.  This improved the quality and speed of the prints.  I was able to achieve a 90% print time reduction,” said Innovation and Technology Engineer John Hannappel in an email to Titan regarding Triumph’s PPE printing efforts.

The Titan team thanks our incredible customers who are utilizing industrial additive manufacturing to 3D print PPE for healthcare workers during this pandemic, providing their communities with thousands of face shields to keep them safe.

Connect with Titan Virtually after 3D Printing Events Cancelled

As the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak continues to have an impact on a global scale, most opportunities to meet face-to-face and demonstrate technology at conferences and trade shows are being postponed. Just within the last week, the Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) conference was put off until March 2021, and the Rapid + TCT 3D printing event has been postponed until April 2021.

While AMUG and Rapid + TCT are the two premier 3D printing events in North America, the cancellations of these shows doesn’t mean would-be attendees have to miss out on connecting with Titan Robotics and experiencing the latest in Titan’s technology.

In the coming weeks, Titan will release new videos and presentations demonstrating our latest Atlas 3D printers and features. At Titan we’re always innovating and creating new solutions to bring additive manufacturing into the production environment. You’ll still have a chance to see our large-format, industrial Atlas 3D printers in action – just from the computer screen instead of on the trade show floor.

At AMUG 2020, Titan was slated to give a presentation highlighting industrial use cases using Titan’s pellet extrusion 3D printing technology. We still plan to release that presentation in a downloadable format in the weeks ahead.

Like most businesses around the world, Titan Robotics is closely monitoring the developing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation. We’re taking extra precautions and have put a plan in place to keep our employees, customers and vendors safe during this outbreak. The health and well-being of the Titan team and their families is our top priority.

We know the cancellations of AMUG 2020 and Rapid + TCT 2020 were difficult decisions, but also the right decisions for the safety of the community and to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We are still looking forward to exhibiting at Formnext 2020 in Frankfurt Germany in November. And Titan will return as a Platinum Sponsor for AMUG 2021 and exhibit at Rapid + TCT 2021.
